What to know about male ferrets

Male ferrets are called hobs. They grow larger than females, usually about 2 to 4 pounds as adults, and many settle into easygoing, cuddly companions once they're past the kit stage.

Neutering a male ferret

None of our males are neutered. Intact males develop a stronger musky smell and can become more territorial during breeding season, which usually starts the spring after they mature. Most pet owners have their male neutered by an exotic-animal vet, which reduces odor and marking.

Male or female?

Both make wonderful pets. Males are larger and often more relaxed; females are smaller and often busier. Compare our female ferrets or consider a bonded pair.
