How to Adopt a Ferret From Us
Adopting a ferret takes four simple steps. Our adoption fee is $200 for a single ferret or $350 for a bonded pair.
- Choose your ferret. Browse available ferrets by female, male or bonded pair. Not sure? Pick "help me choose" on the application.
- Send an adoption application. Our online application asks about your home, experience and other pets. It takes about five minutes.
- We get in touch. We read every application and contact you to answer questions and make sure it's a good match.
- Bring your ferret home. Once you're approved and the adoption fee is paid, we arrange the details of your ferret's homecoming together.
Adoption fees
| Adoption | Fee |
|---|---|
| Single ferret (male or female, any color) | $200 |
| Bonded pair | $350 (save $50) |
Every ferret is up to date on shots. Our ferrets are not spayed or neutered, so budget for that with your vet. See the full ferret cost guide.
Before you apply: checklist
- It's legal where you live. Ferrets are illegal in California, Hawaii, New York City, Washington, DC, and some cities and counties require a permit.
- You have a ferret vet nearby. Not every vet treats ferrets. Find an exotic-animal vet before your ferret comes home.
- You have room for a cage and play area. Ferrets need a multi-level cage plus a ferret-proofed room for daily play.
- You have time every day. Ferrets need several hours of supervised play and interaction daily.
- You have a spay/neuter plan. Talk to your vet about timing, especially for females.
- Everyone at home is on board, including landlords and other pets.
Is a ferret right for you?
Ferrets are playful, curious and affectionate, and they live around 6 to 10 years. They also have a natural musky scent, need a high-protein meat-based diet and get into everything. Read our ferret FAQ for honest answers to the most common questions.
